Still Life Or Landscape Painting Class
In this class students have a choice to paint from still-life or landscape and are ideal for beginners to intermediate students. The fundamental of painting and principle of art will be covered in class. At the still-life lessons, student learn three different ways of seeing and the importance of keying different relationships to your paintings. Two different types of brush handling techniques will be introduced to the beginners to cover the classical looks as well asthe bold and loose painting style. For intermediate students and beyond we'll begin to cover the importance of color relationships. In the landscape lessons, student learn how to paint from photo without copying. This is also an ideal class if you find painting plein air overwhelming for you or simply want to prepare and practice before going out plein air. Your instructor is a faculty of the Plein Air Convention and an award winning plein air painter who will show you how to simplify and how to structure a complicated landscape scene.

Perspective Drawing 1
The perspective 1 class will include a study of the system that allows artists to draw the world of space and form on a flat surface. The course includes exercises in one point, two point, three-point perspective, shadows and reflections.

Digital Painting
This course will introduce students to process of painting in the digital medium. Students will learn not only the foundation to effective painting, but how to apply those skills to Photoshop. Topics such as composition, color and rendering will be covered. Students will also learn photoshop tools and techniques that will help to create high quality renderings and illustrations.

Portraiture Drawing
This class is an exploration of the fundamental principles used in drawing portraits. Structural concepts such as planes and construction will be emphasized, as well as the techniques of tonal drawing. Analysis and breakdown of the individual features will be an integral part of the class, with special emphasis being placed upon their relation to the whole. Observation of shapes and the identification of the unique character of each model will be taught as a means of capturing a likeness.

Head Painting
We will paint from life and discuss choices for setting up the pose, composition, color harmony, lighting, pacing, and bringing the painting to a decent level of resolve. We'll also discuss the language of describing paint in order to better understand our mixtures. Joseph will explain his approach and demonstrate by painting along and illustrating his ideas about the approach.
